After a recent string of events both home and abroad that have included fabric in London, Renate in Berlin, Nouveau Casino in Paris, London based crew Into The Woods are finishing their year strong. With the advent (pun intended) of their fourth vinyl release courtesy of Romanian artist Lumeiux they extend their growing wax based offering with the four-track “Monster In My Dream” EP.
Known for his leftfield grooves and edgy percussive elements, we pick up the EP with Lumieux’s A2 “Affinity” and an impressively situated detuned bassline looms high on the horizon and maintains a focused intensity throughout. Shifting around this is a hollow percussion and a hypnotic padded synth that swirls in and out of view adding an air of mystique and no mistaking. Completing side A is the upbeat title track “Monster In My Dream” and whipped synths join elongated eerie paddy synths which really help to set the tone of the track.
Flipping over to side B and first up is “Sasi” and this is a straight up minimal groover that pulls no punches. Leaning heavily on the seriously swung groove and backward droplet percussion that Lumieux employs to great effect. Completing the fourth edition of Into The Woods vinyl series is “Say What” and with an optimistic slant the release finishes strong with a bounding bassline, vocal stutters, wildly pitched percussive hits and an irresistible groove that is hard to put down. With each track being as good as the next we have a feeling that copies will not stick around for long.
