Micro Orbit returns with the third instalment of its Pioneer Series, featuring the prolific Lumieux, and continues the Milan-based label’s carefully curated vinyl series. Built around its playful “message of love to infinity and beyond” philosophy, the series has quietly become a dependable platform for artists operating at the deeper end of minimal house and techno. Previous editions have welcomed the likes of Mtps, Michaelis, Mihai Pol and Fedo, with the label’s no demo policy emphasising trusted relationships and a tightly focused catalogue.
For the third volume, the various artists compilation brings together a collection of understated but highly functional club tools. Alongside standout contributions from Romanian veteran Triptil and Italy’s Simone Adinolfi, our attention turns to the B1, Lumieux’s ‘Spectral Relativity’. The label has been forming its identity for many years, including this contribution from Zenk back in 2022.
From the opening bars, Spectral Relativity settles into an effortless groove. Softly spoken vocal fragments drift gently across a steady beat, adding just enough personality without ever pulling focus away from the hypnotic pulse underneath. It is sultry minimalist tech house at its finest, allowing subtle movement and careful sequencing to do the heavy lifting.
The percussion is wonderfully restrained. Crisp 909 hi-hats tick away with unwavering confidence while tightly programmed drum machine rhythms gradually emerge from the background, allowing momentum to grow at its own pace. Nothing feels rushed. Instead, Lumieux patiently layers the groove piece by piece. There is a quiet confidence running throughout, the kind of production that understands exactly how much is needed and, more importantly, what can be left out.
The low end provides a warm foundation beneath airy vocal textures and understated synth work. Rather than relying on dramatic breakdowns or oversized hooks, the track thrives on repetition, tiny variations and the natural tension created through its extended arrangement. It’s easy to picture this one slowly warming up the floor at Sunwaves, or drifting effortlessly through the intimate surroundings of Hoppetosse early doors.
Elsewhere on MCRBP003, veteran producer Triptil contributes another timeless slice of breakbeat-leaning minimal, built around subtle atmospheres and understated hooks, while Simone Adinolfi brings his own forward-thinking interpretation of the label’s aesthetic. Together, the compilation reinforces Micro Orbit’s reputation for refined, system-focused music that rewards careful listening as much as patient mixing.
With the Pioneer Series now reaching its third chapter, Micro Orbit continues to demonstrate that consistency is one of its greatest strengths.
