Premiere: 5 – t.na – Vinny [ITWD002]

London based outfit Into The Woods are in the process of growing out with their home turf at present. With parties all over the capital, the brand has also invested heavily in their own musical output. With their vinyl only imprint doing great things as a result of last years editions from Swoy, Sepp, and more on the horizon they switch gears into digital land with their second release from core crew member t.na and his five track “Vinny” EP of which we have a full rundown of title track in our premiere. With support from the likes of Miraloja, Prichindel, and Reiss to mention but a few, this is an unmissable release yet again from ITW.

For the die hard Sunwave attendees you may well recognise today’s premiere track “Vinny”. Having featured in Prichindel’s set at the illustrious festival back in 2021 it now sees the light of day and it features as a bonus track on the EP. Leading out with crisper than crisp beats and a satisfyingly deep, detuned bassline, this has a definite air of the memorable Sunwaves tracks that work well at sunrise as they do at sunrise. The twilight vibes give a serious nod to 90’s trip hop, but set to a grinning minimal  backdrop these elements take on a whole new meaning.

Elsewhere in the EP and track 1 “Sox” opens up the release in fine style. A wickedly catchy bassline wastes no time in making itself known and it goes nowhere for the duration of the track. Perhaps the meanest track on the EP, warped vocals and tidy percussive licks are joined midway through by a room filling synth stab that could easily be found in a dirty basement techno session. Next up is “Sharpe” and it is just that – a spiky, on point techy groover. Swirling pads envelope the upper section of the mix but just enough not to saturate and let the beats punch through.

Adding a slightly different flavour to the EP is “Jay”, leaning heavily on the “in your face” clap, the repeating vocals and rising synth lines add serious amounts of attitude. Rounding out another great round of music from the ITW crew is “Hopper” and with the mean blown bassline doing serious damage amidst a collection of whirrs and clicks it appears that there is no filler to be found on this sterling release from t.na.
