After a string of solid digital releases, Brussels-based label Perception – 知覺 makes its first move onto wax. Label head Dawn Gab steps up for the debut 12″, delivering three slick, percussive cuts designed for the club, plus a tailor-made after-hour dub from the master of subtle house music, Diego Krause.
Diego’s take on ‘Sidney’ is deep, dubby and low-slung, pushing the track into afterparty territory without losing the groove. It’s exactly what you’d expect from the Berlin producer who has been crafting his sound for over ten years with countless releases on the likes of Rawax, Organikc-Music and Berg Audio.
The reshape is classy, no-frills club music with just the right amount of attitude. Sleazy in the best way, but never overcooked. He’s always had a knack for making the simplest ideas feel rich and dynamic, and this remix is a perfect example of that. A rolling bassline, tight drums, and subtle FX that keeps you engaged for just shy of eight minutes. It’s the kind of track that really opens up on a good system.
The full EP sits comfortably within the worlds of minimal and tech-house, but there’s plenty of personality throughout. Dawn Gab’s originals keep things bouncy and playful, with a touch of dub influence that runs across the record. It’s a strong start to the label’s vinyl chapter.
Perception – 知覺 has already carved out a solid identity across 11 digital releases, bringing in fresh names like Benny S, Jorge Schaart and ort.z. The sound has always leaned toward deep, groovy and heady and this record is no different. With their first physical release, they double down on the style they’ve been quietly building: no gimmicks, just effective, well-produced music for discerning dance floors.
