UK founded now Lisbon based imprint Afterhours. returns with an impressive three tracker from none other than Ukrainian bad man producer Silat Beksi. His output has been nothing short of superhuman and his productions are regularly highlights in some of the biggest sets at only the finest events.
He will join an ever growing stable of artists at Afterhours. that has been helping to grow the label’s stripped back ethos with each passing release. Silat’s ‘Transend’ EP is due to ship from next week so make sure that you do not sleep as this extended player is a return to Silat’s more darker side.
We pick up the release with A1 and title track bomb ‘Transend’ and it is a brooding monster of a track. It seems that this is the only mode that Silat works in these days as his flow is unstoppable at present. From the very beginning you can tell it will just get better and better and you are not wrong. From the rumbling bass, thudding kicks, nicely swung percussion and those outrageous pitched vocal chops. The dubby vocal during the breakdown coupled with the subtle record swipes, scraped metal FX pile on the tension and with there being let up in the atmosphere, ‘Transend’ will be a standout track for sure.
Flipping over to side B and ‘Monoliza’ sees Beksi continue this hypnotic style. Again, he effortlessly inserts just the right tone of space into the mix to carry the track in one direction but then makes changes direction just by dropping this section of the track. Less is most definitely more here. There is also the insane collection of sound FX that he uses to build up the grooves of his tracks. Nobody knows where he gets them from but there is rumours they are delivered by aliens.
Completing the release is the tidy breaks of ‘Elephant Dream’ and this sees a return to a more floatier cosmic stance. Swirling pads and ethereal synths are paired together to produce a metallic mystery that, while on paper the sounds are at odds, the juxtaposition works a treat. Don’t say we didn’t warn you as this is bound to be hot when it starts flying off the racks next week.
