Los Angeles label Saturn Drive Records is back at it again with another banger release, featuring three tracks carefully crafted by top-tier producer Louie Fresco and a remix by minimal pioneer Magda. Label head Alain de Saracho has been keeping himself busy for the past five years since Saturn Drive was launched, and the results are showing. Deeply involved in the electronic music scene, he has become a versatile figure with time, both in his image as a DJ and producer, and through the events and releases curated under the Saturn Drive brand.
Today we’re taking a look at the second track on the release, Magda’s remix of “Loose Brain”. Choppy voices and a linear drum line mark the opening, followed slowly but surely by the detuned synths and electrifying snares that characterize the rest of the track. Magda’s signature dark approach gives an eerie, yet fascinating outlook on “Loose Brain” that won’t go unnoticed.
Moving on to Fresco’s original version of the track, we can spot his versatility and playfulness within the first seconds of playing, with the diverse amalgam of synths, kicks, and sounds that hit you all at once, along with the choppy voices that mark “Loose Brain” ’s leitmotif. Although taking a more energetic, somewhat upbeat approach, especially in the second half, there is a charming, dark allure that permeates the track, truly characteristic of Louie Fresco. Something you only understand if you listen to his productions.
“Kuryaki”, the third track on the digital album, sends you right into the middle of a 90s Ibiza rave, thanks to its old-school atmosphere and pulsating rhythms, intensified by stimulating Spanish vocals. Closing the EP is “Luces Super Densas”, a dreamy journey that makes your mind wander and your body dance.
