A well-known face in the Georgian and Berlin club scene, Cath Records are bastions of the darker, bleeding edge of minimal techno and electro. Having extended invites to many of our community’s purveyors including Onur Ozer, Anah, Lumiere, Bruno Schmidt, Tunik, Art of Dark’s Colin Chiddle, and a raft of local selectors that deserve your attention. They now present the second edition of their label vision with three original cuts from Nicole & Troy Vladislavovich backed by a remix from none other than Z@p.
Our focus track on B1 “Woo Woo”, is nothing like its cocktail counterpart in that there is no sugary sweet taste here as it is all about the hypnotic waning synths and a rib-shaking bassline that informs much of the EP. One great contrast going on here is the raw bleepy trills set against the sublime fluted synths that ebb and flow throughout the track. Completing side B is the last of the releases original works in “Fractals”, a powerful vocal track that shows its roots to be found in techno but reimagined for Nicole and Troy’s current sonic inclinations.
Flipping back over to side A and we find lead track “Out Of Control”, the original version further cements the pairs harder influences. The unforgiving synth stabs are placed front and center but when set against the the more housier elements such as the droplet synth line there is mass appeal available but in a very underground way. This sentiment is taken further by Z@p who excels in drawing out the drama from any situation and using it for his own means. The result is a growling monster of a track that sparingly uses the original vocals to devastating effect.
