Slovenian artist Eliaz joins label owner JJ Fortune as the first name to appear on Rizzwax in a special guest series. Having already starred for some of the biggest names in the dark electro sphere in Cartullis Music, From The Void Above, and 22Recordings. His success is certainly not confined to these imprints as his inclusion on the previously exclusive Rizzwax imprint will attest.
Fans of his earlier work will be pleased to learn that Eliaz is sticking to his well-oiled guns on “Planet Earth”. As far as we are aware the Slovenian is not clairvoyant but he paints a foreboding picture of the planet we call home. Filtering bowed synths shift through their central point to reveal dastardly tones, there is however a shard of light that creeps in, but you really have to look hard to see it, but it’s there. Certainly not a bad thing as the muscular grooves will surely devastate any floors that witness it. Joining in on side A is the aptly titled “Didgeridoo” and while it is not breakneck as Aphex Twin’s seminal work, it also goes to prove that this instrument is woefully overlooked.
Over on side B and bossman JJ Fortune takes back the reins and he leads with his tongue in cheek banger “Digital Ghost”. While the comic sound FX may hint at a fun side to JJ’s sound, that soon dissipates to reveal a fire-breathing heater that also harnesses the darkside of the dancelfoor. Closing out the release is “Annihilation”, and the very name should tell you what you need to know and it does not disappoint. Sinister synths punctuate the lead in, but when the burst of snares hit you know that you are on to a winner. Clipped detuned synth stabs slowly build momentum throughout unfurling more and more layers of dastardly intent. A great package for those twilight hours, we cant wait to see who else will be joining JJ in the near future.
