The Argentine pairing of Mateo Dufour and Cosenza returns to the Key Records fold with a joint EP that includes three original cuts and an excellent remix from Apollonia hitter Dan Ghenacia.
We begin our dive into KEYR002 with Dan Ghenacia’s reworking of “Why So Freak”, and as you might expect, infectious grooves are the order of the day. Where the original version from Mateo Dufour & Cosenza leans in a more 80s synth direction, Dan’s version smooths out the rhythms and sprinkles a little French magic over the top for good measure. Both versions are indeed worthy of high praise and offer a distinct flavour, with the original being slightly more stripped back.
Over on side A, the duo of original tracks starts with “Sweat”, an equally stripped track that makes full use of the vintage 90s undulating bassline, carefully crafted atmospherics, and euphoric synth stabs that answer the call of one of the most influential moments in dance music. This is quickly followed up by the tooly “Girl (I Want To)” that doesn’t complicate proceedings. Instead relies on the power of the groove that is comprised of a snappy snare and deep probing bassline, an ethereal synth pad, and suggestive vocals.
You will shortly be able to get your hands on this prime piece of wax via Deejay.de.
