Launched in 2020, Uruguayan label Key Records truly lives up to its name as a key figure in the local music scene, leaving a special mark with every release. And their latest work is no exception. For their newest digital album, they paired up with none other than Bolivian legend Andy Somoza, who continues a fine streak of neat releases, delivering a thrilling 4-tracker too good to overlook.
Our journey through this sonic landscape starts with “Five Degrees”, the second track on the album. Somoza’s ability to blend distinctive elements can be observed within the first seconds, as intriguing vocal samples drift through the track, while wavy synths that surface and fade shape its eclectic soundscape even further.
Opening the release is the album’s title track, “Rock It”, a sonic explosion of joy filled with infectious rhythms and funky synths, all over a bouncy melodic line sprinkled with complementary vocals that add personality to the track and make it stand out.
“Guten Track” explores a darker, deeper territory, with magnetic pads and intriguing vocal samples that blend harmoniously with the composing elements of the track. Subtle organ keys alongside spacey sounds serve as the leitmotif of “This Time”, the closing track of the EP that gracefully affirms Somoza’s dedication to showcasing a distinctive, signature approach to his productions.
