Romanian artist Triptil is very well known to the minimal community for a multitude of reasons. From his in-demand productions that have graced esteemed imprints such as Crocus, More Than Music and NG Trax he has countless other credits to his name. As well as his undoubted studio skills Triptil travels far and wide on the strength of his skills in front of a set of decks. It is a no brainer that new imprint Verum would call upon the Romanian to deliver a track for their first release. Also on the bill for VRM001 is Bryz, Lulla and Venda.
Tightly woven beats are a distinct calling card of Triptil’s productions as is his knack for crafting killer off kilter basslines and A1 ‘Switch’ is a perfect example. Weaving in and out of the grooves is sound bites from a forgotten conversation but one that had real meaning. Hollowing percussion tumbles off the taught drums neatly filling in the carefully arrange space in the mix. As always, the mean leaning groove is tempered with the airy pad that shifts the attention in a different direction.
Joining Triptil on side A is rising star Bryz and his rolling grooves have already helped to elevate his profile. In a similar vein to Tiptil ‘Apotheosis’ rolls out a soundscape full of movement and punch in equal measures. Flipping over to B1 and Miami based artist and Cedesciu Wax founder Lulla has crafted a rock-solid tripper. Pads and pitched up vocal snips float in and out of focus but certainly not without losing a grip on the groove. Completing VRM001 is Australian Venda and ‘Oserta’ is a swaggering slab of rhythmic minimalism. Metallic synths grate against the undulating bassline but in the best possible way.
VRM001 is now available on pre-sale from deejay.de.
