Valencia based label Peim Records present their second EP from T.S.O with more fierce club weaponary.
After their inaugural release sold out pretty quick, heads turned to the Spanish project presenting a unique take on club tracks blurring the lines between genres. The first release had shades of dub, trance and minimal streaks, as well as tripped-out IDM influences. It’s fair to stay it stuck out amongst your typical four-track club EP.
A punky attitude rings through the presence of T.S.O. With little information online and a consistent output of equally intruiging and banging tracks tapping into a variety of scenes. You can imagine Jane Fitz and Rhadoo spinning these weird bombs, just as much I’d see Ben UFO throwing one out.
In this premiere we zoom into a piece of progressive mayhem in the new record’s B1. ‘Wanna’ is another line blurring number filled with menace and intrigue. A pulsing, almost new wave style bass line ticks away in a sludgy, chug-inspired fashion, whilst sleazy vocals slip and slide through an increasingly psychedelic palate.
Weird synth noises and sample bring a touch of psy-trance, layering a weight of weirdness on top of this club-frothing beat. Sound design is intricate with lots of micro details swimming in delay, whilst still giving each sound enough room to breathe.
The same track gets a funky reshape from Ildec. Another producer that tows a fascinating line between trance-punk-house-dub kind of mix. Moods remain equally strange and brooding, with a fresh bassline bringing a degree of urgency that adds a nice alternative.
On the A-side, both eyes stay firmly on the dance floor. ‘Sequencing’ bounces through a slick, dubby groove layered with detail and lush sense of movement. ‘Resonance’ leans more into a minimal vibe, flexing a stiff, muscly low end and luscious synth pads that could slot nicely into a Rhadoo set.
It’s clear to see how Peim have gained decent momentum in just two releases, presenting truly unique and line-blurring music without losing grip of a peak time dance floor.
