Parisian label Outdom Records has become a force to be reckoned with, and this fact is as much to do with their unmissable events as it is their buy-on-sight records. They now present their seventh release, and this time they have in tow Brazilian duo Criminal System aka Criminal Issues and Sisto, who turn in five excellent original works.
We kick off with the last track on the release “Psycho Factory” and it’s not so much a case of leaving the best to last as all tracks on the EP are dynamite, it is more a case of the EP being hot right until the end. Rather than being jam-packed full of massive basslines, this is a more stripped-back offering. Instead, each element, such as the stretched out synth pad, guitar licks and sporadic bass tones, speak for itself and breathe a little.
Taking it from the top is “Never Satisfied” and more reduced goodness awaits. The bumpy beats and crisp percussion are more akin to a deep house groover and the hypnotic air certainly lends itself well to opening of the EP. “Mind Over Matter” is next, and the energy levels rise in tandem with the progress through the EP. Wigged out electronics work especially well with deep probing bassline and the skipping percussion.
“Shotgun” is next on the agenda and the finely mixed drums are soon given excellent context by the excellent bassline that soon joins the party. The intertwining percussion adds a more techier level to the EP which gives yet another facet to the musical offering. Completing the release is “Cooler Than Your Records” and finishes with a funked out slab of electro house that lovers of Outdom Records will instantly identify. With each track having a French Touch vibe you could be forgiven for thinking these tracks were penned by a French artist.
