The sought-after vinyl series TELUM launch new imprint AURUM.
Seven sold out releases from the elusive imprint have been dazzling the minimal circuit since 2018, gaining support from the scene’s titans in the likes of RPR Soundsystem, Ricardo Villalobos and Barac.
The new imprint dials into a more refined, stripped-back sound when compared to the edit-driven thesis of TELUM, as heard in our recent premiere of TELUM007; flexing Dr Dre bars over understated beats.
Four long form cuts form the debut EP, meandering through hazey, psychedelic moods loaded with funk. Stretchy, elastic basslines wrap around lean, lazy drum patterns finding a place in the sets of many of the minimal heavyweight’s record bags.
Hats cut through the mix with a crisp and firm finish, although remain within more blissful, laid back moods littered with soulful melodies, and peculiar poly-rhythms.
The featured B2 honors this blissed-out state with a delicate head trip. Loose melodies loop over tender textural work, caressed by supple hi-hats, similar to the stunning work coming out of another great unknown artist imprint Nanel.
Origins of the producer remain unknown, true to the label’s ethos within the parent label TELUM, although obvious nods to the Romanian circuit ring bells throughout the record. Clever tech-house rhythms merge with perpetual, long-form arrangements, encouraging sunrise-friendly moments on the dance floor.
A1 and 2 pick up the pace with two energetic basslines, tweaking in and out of trippy vocals and infectious percussion work inducing the trance. Nimble shifts in hat and clap changes keep both eyes peeled toward the dance floor, whilst managing to explore expressive, pensive states that the world of minimal does so well.
