One person that will know a thing or two about the constant pressures and adulation that goes with cultivating a regular musical program is Closer’s Shakolin. Through the Ukrainian club and latterly the sister record store Andrey has created a finely tuned ear that appreciates a myriad sound featuring blown basslines, tight percussion and that special x factor that makes his sets unmissable.
This week Un_Mute will play host the Closer head honcho on Friday, July 30th as well as his wife Karine who is also a rather special selector that has supported none other than Ricardo Villalobos in her native Armenia. Lining the pockets of the early attendees will be resident Rasho. Shakolin explains the connection, “I played with Rasho a few years ago “somewhere in Brooklyn”. Since that time, I thought it’s a good idea to bring him to Kyiv. Why? Because I very like his vision of house music and his charming modesty. And finally, the right time has come and Rasho is heading to Closer’s summer terrace on 14 of august, and day before he is playing in Lviv. And this Friday we are meeting for Closer showcase in Miami.”
As always, an Un_Mute weekend is never confined to just one night and they will be welcoming back one of the finest diggers on the planet. Few can hold a candle to the depth of musical knowledge DJ Masda possesses and on Saturday night he will be unfurling the corners of his bag for all at ATV Records. It would probably be easier to say which clubs and festivals Masda has not starred at but when you consider his label is Cabaret Records it is easy to see why he is in such high demand. Joining him in the booth with be the Sports Records duo of local lads Kyle and Jacob.
