New label Yaji Project launched to promote underground music in China

Literally translated, Yaji stands for creativity and the fact that top BE9 and Ho Do Ri artist Ben Balance is heavily involved speaks volumes about the standard of the imprint. After a recent tour of China, Ben forged a lasting relationship with the impressing micro/wave crew based in Shanghai, China. When discussing his reasons for getting involved in Yaji Project Ben had this to say on the mostly female scene, “We want the more female looking scene to get educated with groove we want them to produce, we want to give people that come to the clubs to stick with music get into productions, try to create… something new. They have 1.2 billion people there… there must be a creative outcome at some point.”

For their first outing, Yaji Project has enlisted the undeniable talents of Atipic and Salty Nuts artist Alexis Cabrera who delivers the energetic 3-track EP named “Things As When We Started”.

Laden with rolling breakbeats, lush electro synth work and exciting drum arrangements designed to blow up any dancefloor. Ben has also exclusively revealed that there is more to the EP than it first seems, you will need to check out the release on January 21st to find out what we mean.

It is easy to see why the connection was made by Ben, the musical angle is clearly there, but the micro/wave crew and their extended family also share the same BE9 vision when it comes to their 360-degree branding. As well as having the musical knowledge required, the Shanghai crew have the correct network of platforms from which to project their vision, including a strong bond with the newly opened 44KW nightclub.

Like BE9 and their network of labels and Parker Lewis nightclub, micro/wave offer the same full circuit of musical experience and this can only help to strengthen the already growing Chinese electronic music scene.
