Subtil Records have been churning out some naughty little numbers over the years.
Trommel favourite IULY.B delivered a blinder with his ‘Timeworn’ EP. More recently, Mihai Pol took charge with ‘Making Waves’, from which we premiered the title track. The Berlin based label continues to set the trend, welcoming the most current and in demand artists on the underground minimal scene. Traumer, another Trommel favourite, is up next.
The man behind gettraum has featured across a range of labels, from the powerhouse like Cocoon and Desolat to deeper, more dub orientated outfits such as Berg Audio, FUSE and All Inn Records, to name but a few. Traumer now brings his rolling, hypnotic rhythms to Subtil and we’ve taken ‘Fortuna’ for the premiere.
Chugging bassline sets the scene, a deep dark groove littered with eery samples not uncommon to the Romanian sound. Bits of white noise and echoey percussive notes glitch over the beat in ear tantalising fashion. The gradual build in this one is captivating.
The electric riff flows in motion, creating a dull energy that becomes alive as synths reach high above the rhythms, crying out for the breakdown to follow. Operatic vocals signal a moment of intensity that is sure to have you reaching out for the air in front of you. One of those magical moments on the dance floor that Traumer is so well versed in creating.
There’s plenty to go at with this one, making it a worthy addition to a Rominimal collection. Highly likely to find a place in the libraries of the genre’s giants.
