Trommel.257 – Que Sakamoto

Que Sakamoto standing in festival surrounded by pink mist

Founding Huit Etoiles back in 2015, Que Sakamoto is a celebrated and highly influential artist and selector of the highest order. With releases on Not An Animal, Roam and To Rack & Ruin, as well as a clutch of worldwide appearances for the likes of Rinse, NTS, and Red Light, you should always expect the unexpected. Lauded for his left-of-centre selections, Que is renowned for his ability to cater for each and every floor he is invited to host and, staying true to his roots, he is a serious advocate for Japanese music and the role it plays in his young followers’ musical upbringing.

It is safe to say that the music found on Que Sakamoto’s offering to our podcast series is truly unique. Calling this mix a distillation of his many miles of global and interstellar travel into one recording is almost impossible; this goes much farther than that. Melding futuristic breaks and face-melting techno with outrageous blends and transitions, Que redefines the confines of a DJ mix. Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of this artist’s mystery is that there is no telling where he might pop up next, as his next dates see him appearing at Newcastle’s Cobalt Studios and Australia’s Sunburn Festival.
