Founder and co-owner of Discontinuous, Alessio Barletta returns with a limited press series of his own works, Overnight. Here he presents four original pulsing tracks designed only for the dancefloor.
Beginning with the A2 track “Behaviors,” Barletta crafts a menacingly undulating bassline that underpins the action throughout. The stripped-back grooves add even more power to the bassline, and the raw synth stabs make this unmissable for when the dancefloor needs that extra push during peak hours. Completing side A is the swaggering “24” and this opens up the EP in emphatic style. Heavy-hitting snares keep things moving while the chopped vocal and interplay of the synth stabs produce a more complex rhythm.
Moving onto side B and “Roma” in a similar vein, but certainly does not retread old ground. Arpeggiating synths and soaring strings hint at a more ethereal direction but with an undoubted bite thanks to the rax bass tones. “Rostov” rounds out this fine debut EP from Barletta’s Overnight imprint, and again, there is no time wasted here in asserting dominance on any soundsystem. The detuned synths and radio vocals produce a menacing vibe for the track, and it sits perfectly as the EP closer.
