Telum returns with a new bomb, almost a year since the last. The ever elusive family of artists behind the platform continue to be kept hidden. And while the name remains unknown, we do know the seventh in the series comes with support from Raresh, Peter Inspirescu, Priku, Barac and Cristi Cons to say the least. Also as seen on Mihai Pol’s recent Sunrise Hub live session.
This one follows a theme that we’ve heard before, bridging the gap between the accessible and the underground. The seriously slick re-edit of Gorillaz‘ ‘Feel Good Inc’ that featured in TELUM005 was an airing of the commercial. But it comes with a certain stripped back flair that keeps it undeniably cool. The latest A side provides much of the same and this time, Dr. Dre’s ‘Housewife’ receives the treatment.
Much of the main element is worked from the Hip Hop classic, keeping the groove slung bassline but injecting it with pace. The magic of minimal makes this current. A strict percussion offers a breezy rhythm while impromptu drum taps mix it up. Melodies coast between bars, providing cushion for the beat as Kurupt’s hook innocently breathes snippets of the story.
Sped up to match the tempo, layered with filter and delay, the result is infectious. Even with a relatively obvious re-work the electronic sounds prevail, delivering another refreshing ode to popular music of the past.
These tracks from Telum often feature heavily in the sets of the aforementioned Pol. Much of it sounds like him, in fact some of it probably is him. One can only speculate, but what we do know is the music speaks for itself. Again, another top quality edition from what is becoming a seminal series in the underground sound.
Pre-order the record from deejay.de. This one’s not due for release until the end of March.
