Montreal label Suleiman Records deliver another unique package in their 13th digital release with two tracks from Valeria Croft, plus a remix from The Mekanism.
The project run by Darem Aissa treads an intriguing path between house and techno which has nurtured a devoted following within their corner of dance music. Acting as both a hub for Aissa’s productions and presenting guests from around the globe, previous releases have featured an array of artists bringing their unique flair to the table.
Sounds have meandered through a diverse palate stretching from garage and downtempo explorations from Cesare vs Disorder, breakbeat jams from Onur Ozman, and more melodic moods from the label founder that was reviewed last May.
Valeria Croft returns to the label with a full debut EP after contributing a remix back in 2017. The Finnish producer has been a staple of Helsinki’s scene for several years now, regularly featuring within her home city’s underground circuit as a DJ, as well as presenting productions on a number of labels including Meatbean Germany, RA+RE France and Render Obedience.
The premiered track ‘Affectionate’ reveals the sultry side of her house music endeavours. Sleazy rhythms gently rock over one another with a lush, velvet-like charm that you can already hear popping through a nice system with a delightful presence. Beats are simple and stripped back, allowing a clean sub-bass to ripple the low end whilst gorgeous melodic work sings overhead.
Blissful pads bring a weightless energy to the track, presenting a quite literally affectionate mood through sensual vocal snippets and pristine sound design. The kick and hi-hats cut through the mix with notable space between one another, allowing for the stripped-back structure to shine.
It rings bells of some of house music’s most classic cuts from the likes of Cassy and Apollonia, showcasing the art of simple and refined club music. With that being said, this strain of sultry house slots into a home listening environment just as comfortably as a packed club.
You can hear that each sound is considered, resisting clogging up the mix with too many elements, ideas are given the space to sing and gradually evolve which creates a lush hypnotic vibe.
Both Suleiman Records and Valeria Croft are quickly becoming one to watch in this circle of serene house flavours.
