Premiere: 3 – CESARE vs DISORDER feat. Joe Le Groove – Come Back [SUL021]

Triple threat breakbeat action from Cesare vs Disorder, featuring spooky vocals from Joe Le Groove in the 21st release of Sulieman Records.

Just a few seconds into the premiere of ‘Come Back’, there’s a plethora of influences shining through. Slick breaks pin the rhythm with an infectious charm, building patiently before a huge, almost grime-inspired bassline wraps itself around the beat.

There’s a sense of a UK vibe with the menacing, street-smart attitude that rings through the track. At the same time, heavily swung percussion and the elegant piano riff show the Brazilian side of Cez, aka Cesare vs Disorder’s work. Joe Le Groove’s subtle vocals add another dimension to the track’s atmosphere, bringing a feeling of live jam states.

Stuttering piano notes roll over casually, allowing the rhythm to take front and centre without ever losing momentum for over eight minutes. Sounds morph into one another with effortless weight, slowly building up peak-time energy while remaining laid-back and packed with sleaze. There is a looseness to the arrangement that gives the track its charm, never sounding overworked or too polished. Little fills and rhythmic details constantly surface beneath the groove, rewarding deeper listening while still landing with impact.

The balance between tension and warmth feels particularly refined here. The track pushes forward with a rugged physicality, but the melodic touches soften the edges just enough to stop things tipping into aggressive territory. It captures that sweet spot between breakbeat and hypnotic house functionality, sounding equally suited to darker club spaces and open-air moments.

One glance at the producer’s Bandcamp reveals a prolific work ethic that dates back to the mid 2000s. Many timeless releases have landed on the likes of Azimute, Pleasure Zone and Rawax, shaping the Cesare vs Disorder project as one of the most tastemaking tech-house projects out there.

As the boss of the Serialism Records label, Cesare has been a highly active producer for over two decades. Outside of his production work, Cez can be seen rocking dance floors from the booth everywhere from Berlin and Barcelona, to Marrakesh and Venice.

The Italian-Polish artist’s first record dates back to 2006, before going on to hold a residency at D-Edge club in São Paulo, alongside many projects as a producer-composer, sound engineer and A&R, and founding the two labels Serialism Records and Morning People. It’s fair to say Cez’s imprint on dance music runs deep.

You can hear this level of experience in the eloquent production of this new work for Sulieman Records. Many intricate details are lathered across the track. It’s the kind of tune which feels simple on first listen, but the more you hear it, the more you uncover its intricacies.

Suleiman Records is a Montreal label founded by the producer Darem Aissa, paying homage to Syrian poet Suleiman Al-Aissa, one of the most prominent contemporary Arab poets.
