The Bordeaux based Hill Billy crew have already cultivated a sweet spot in the European underground scene by way of their close-knit community. The collective has previously invited serious players such as Andrey Pushkarev, Molly, DJ Dustin, Varhat, S.A.M, and Lawrence to their previous residency at the French city’s top venue IBoat. What started out as a packed-out rave in a barber shop back in 2018 that quickly turned into a roadblock event has led them to devise a truly 360-degree approach to the way in which they present their musical tastes but more on that later. With three birthdays’ having passed without celebration the crew has assembled to present a new vision that they just can’t wait to share with you. There is no way that their fourth birthday will pass without occasion.
For now, their main focus will be very much on their next event on Saturday, February 26th which will take the form of a split venue marathon that will span many facets of the left of centre sounds emanating from France and further afield. The first section of weekend will be taking place out on the waterways of Bordeaux’s Garonne and the Hill Billy crew to take care not to sink the boat with their heavy artillery. Bringing the heat to the booming Bruit Rose Production’s soundsystem will some be some home turf heroes.
First up is Discobar head Lamache and if you are yet to catch a set from this very much in demand selector just a look at his label’s back catalogue and you will have an extremely small window into the sound palette of this taste maker. Also on the bill is another label head and unreal artist in Lowris. The Aeternum boss, like Lamache is a firm part of the Yoyaku family and has traversed the world on the strength of his bomb tracks and similarly incendiary DJ sets.
The latter part of the journey will take the shape of one of Hill Billy’s three main focus points – the warehouse party. Running from midnight until 10am at Espace DS and the selection of artists that will be taking control of the finely tuned L’Acoustics rig is suitably apt given the grande nature of the occasion. Of course, the Hill Billy DJ’s will be setting the mood in advance of the visiting dignitaries stepping up to the plates.
Fellow Frenchman and Apollonia member Dyed Soundorom will be returning to his homeland to deliver his usual masterclass in selection and execution. He will be joined in the immersive warehouse space by My Own Jupiter boss Nicolas Lutz who really needs no introduction as his capabilities behind the decks and leftfield bangers are well documented. Also on the bill will be ReSolute resident O.BEE and he is as well a rounded artist as they come and is just at home warming the decks for others as he is taking the reins for the headline closing set.
This is only the beginning of what is a multi-faceted approach to their future endeavours and the warehouse events is just one of the many outlets at their disposal. The Hill Billy crew will also be focusing on expanding their reach and scope for creativity by way of club based events with a propensity for more techno orientated sounds that encompass the more dub leaning sounds. All good events always have a killer after party and this collective will be presenting just the right atmosphere in which to lose yourself (or find yourself) and always in a “family” scenario. There is also a nod to bigger open-air / festival events on the horizon but first things first is Hill Billy’s magical 20 hour ride to celebrate their fourth birthday.
