Our latest premiere floats in from the shores of Valencia out of Benicàssim born label Lespalmes Discs. The platform owes its inspirations to the natural mountainous region of that which surrounds it and this celebration of the picturesque stems through from all angles. The test pressing itself had its first play on a Technics 1200, perched on a cliff overlooking the Balearic sea.
This vinyl-only imprint provides a space for label head Pizzicatto to release his own productions. Fernando Rebo runs things alongside him. The former’s cool, collective originals often come with remixes from respected artists known for consistent delivery. Having previously featured Howl Ensemble, Jaffa Surfa and Iuly.B, Lespalmes Discs now invite SEPP and Giuliano Lomonte to showcase their expertise.
Lomonte takes on ‘Renegà’ on the B side. The Italian artist is, of course, no stranger to the Mediterranean himself. His interpretation here brings with it a breath of freshness that mirrors the label’s own resolve. Floaty, euphoric tones dance across high pitched synth melodies embedded with longer chords that drift between bars. Groove oozes from the bassline, a signature sound of Lomonte that brings with it that deep, rolling energy perfectly primed for the dance floor.
Over on the A-side, SEPP injects ‘Masfares’ with the Romanian treatment. The niceties of the original are maintained, with a healthy dollop of weird and wonderful percussion pieces thrown in for good measure. Crackly vocal chatters steadily around trippy rhythms and the hefty bassline in this one means there’s plenty of groove across both sides of the wax.
Out today, you can purchase the latest Lespalmes Discs EP from Juno or deejay.de. And there’s more in the pipeline, with the fourth and fifth releases already in the making. True to form, Valencian specials meet international guests. Ukraine’s KiRik will offer a trio of tracks, leading onto what is set to be a rather special VA, marking the first for the label.
