EVIDEON Studios Records hit number seven with their next EP, and label head MAXIMILIAN reprises his role as dial controller.
Channelling the deep analogue warmth of 90s house, MAXIMILIAN presents the deepness of “Mcewen”. Stripped-back grooves courtesy of vintage drum machines set the tone, and the crispness of the kicks, room-filling reverb of the percussion, and hi-hats play perfectly against the rounded bassline. Moody synth lines recall a time when Larry Heard ruled the roost, and the hypnotic vocals add to the timestamp with a sultry drawl.
Back on side A, “Lemoine” leans further into this sonic direction with a stunning female vocal that speaks to the deep house roots that many subgenres now bleed out from. The uncomplicated grooves are intentionally taken back to their fundamentals in order to give power to the forlorn synth stabs and waning synth strings.
