Norwegian fun factory Det Gode Selskab hit another milestone with their tenth vinyl release, and they have enlisted the undoubted talents of Sweaty Headz Records crew Busso. An artist with a keen ear for the weird and wonderful, his “Anna In The Jelly” EP collects together four dovetailing sounds that are all designed with the floor in mind.
We pick up the EP with the title track “Anna In The Jelly”, and the crisp snare, thudding kicks, and detuned bassline are a mainstay that would shape the action throughout. Elongated bells and piano riffs signal a sinister tact that would suit the darkest of dancefloors.
Side B is completed by “Red Print”, a bass-heavy, stripped-back affair that is as playful as it is full of character. In a similar vein to some of Mathew Jonson’s earlier work. Sliding synths, lively percussion, acidic energy at its finest; this typifies a style that DGS has had at its core since day one.
Flipping over to side A, “Sexual Desire” begins the record with an energetic house jam that is much more than the deep bubbling bassline and roomy snare rolls. The female narrator tells a sultry tale that is punctuated with moody piano chords and water-like sound FX that add to the dreamy deep house vibe.
