Premiere: B1 – JJ Fortune – Stay Quiet [RZWX02]

Irish born and now Melbourne based artist JJ Fortune has a number of tasty imprints in his stable. Boss of Pachinko Records and Rizound, the former has seen a big hit from Occibel and Mario Liberti and the latter a bomb packed digital label and event series. Rizound is the parent imprint while we focus on the second release on sub label Rizzwax from main man JJ Fortune and the slab of wax in question bursting with all the swagger, attitude, power of his other labels.

Kicking off on the B-side we head straight for the sinister synth bass of ‘Stay Quiet’ and it is anything but. Raw hi hats punctuate a foreboding organ like synth and the accompanying grinding bassline. It’s not until the gritty bassline takes center stage that its clear this track is not for the feint hearted and would easily sit in a Quest set. As the track progresses, more bad ass sounds unfold into the mix until it finally breaks down before an even more naughty bassline rears its head.

B2 ‘U.F.O.’ is just as bad ass. Warped vocals pepper the laser swirls and room filling detuned synth motifs. The focus on the powerful drums seems to drift alongside the ever-expanding synths but this is just to lure you into a false sense of security before the banging bassline and huge kicks come crashing in.

Flipping back over to the A-side and the detuned madness is only just getting started. The pounding kicks of ‘Under My Control’ envelope the track and the pitch-black vocals and huge sub bass leave the listener in no doubt who is the boss. Completing on ‘Your Wish Is My Command’ and the EP finishes strong with more high-octane bass fuelled goodness.
