The build up to one of the finest meetings of minds has been nothing short of mouth watering and with only a few months to go until Sunny Side Festival launches the final details have now been set in stone. For three days between 17th May and 19th May the sun will cast its sunny side well and truly on a fine cast of our scene’s most in demand selectors.
The majority of the action of Sunny Side Festival will take place at the jewel of Malta, UNO Malta. A sprawling complex of main stages, bars and restaurants and the first day of the festivities on Friday, 17th May will offer two stages of music.
The Treehaus stage will be home to a tINI & The Gang x SlapFunk crossover collaboration of epic propositions. Providing the house and breaks soundtrack on this stage will be Doudou MD b2b Carlos Valdes, Mato, Samuel Deep, Slick Steve, tINI b2b Anthea, and Velasco. Over on the Tropicana stage and Unfocused will be offering a more muscular sonic trip. In charge of the decks will be Desiree Falessi, Owen Jay b2b Brian James, Private Press (live), Ryan Elliot, Tijana T, and XDB.
The following day there will be even more highlights from three of the underground’s finest crews. Taking charge of the UNO Malta main stage will be French collective Yoyaku and they have a stunning selection of names lined up. Bringing their ethereal live performance to the stage will be Aline Umber, they will be joined by Ben & Mecelli, Cabanne b2b Shaked, Louie G, Louison, Magda b2b Morgan, Monile, Sonja Moonear, and Tomas Station.
Also on Saturday, May 18th there will also be a Sunset Beach Party courtesy of After Caposile and Why? Not Club in Zanzibar. Known for their outdoor raves and waterfront exploits they know a thing or two about this area. In the booth during this excellent party you will find Francesco Maddalena, Luca Cordina, Miroloja, Satoshi Tomiie (live), and VO1GT.MAS.
Moving on to the last day of the festival and the quality on offer is quite frankly silly. Taking control of the Treehaus stage will be a celebration of Dungeon Meat and a decade in the business together. Tristan da Cunha and Brawther have been setting clubs and festival stages and their raucous sounds will be perfectly paired with Dyed Soundorom, Prosumer, Puis, Ron Obvious (live), and Super Mario.
For those wishing to get out on the open water and experience the beauty of Malta from the surrounding topaz seas there is a boat party curated by event organisers Sunny Side Up. Helmed by captain UJ/DJ he will be joined on the high seas by Dana Ruh, and Laurine b2b Cecilio. While this is not part of the main festival access and a separate ticket required, this party is highly recommended for obvious reasons.
Lastly, there is one of the biggest parties of the weekend, but again we might be a bit biased as it features our long awaited tied up with London’s Half Baked. Taking over the Tropicana stage Bengy, Eli Verveine, Raresh b2b Edward, and Sam Bangura b2b Harry McCanna. A fine way to round out what is surely to be one of the finest weekends of the summer and the beginning of a new chapter in Malta’s music history.
