Premiere: B1 – Charonne – Odyssée [ZORA008]

Aaaand… Again we’re hosting a piece of a huge release. Not so long ago we had 3 tracks from iO (Mulen)’s 3×12” album, now it’s time to travel to France. Their Rakya crew are ready with the biggest release so far. Why so? At least, they never had 3×12” before, and probably won’t have another one in the near future. And, you know – a bigger amount of tracks means a bigger amount of great tracks (usually). Today we’re going to show you one in full and will tell about others briefly (got the chance to hear them in full).

So. The B-side opener, “Odyssée” with Charonne’s signature sounds, that could be heard almost instantly, is a great example of a moderately deep, but still very energetic tool. A combination of mellow chords and a calm melody in general along with quite buzzing additional samples and lovely female French vocals creates that unique sound, we love Charonne for (I’m saying “we”, right?). And the second part is not really repeating the first, adding some extra things to the melody and composition. Always a good thing.

What else did Charonne cook during the last year of preparations? Let’s divide it into two parts – downtempo/non-beat music and usual club tracks. The first category starts with the album opener “Une Voix Inconnue” – slow and deep electro cut, that sets the mood for the whole album. “In The Valley Of Feelings” interlude could be easily imagined on… Let’s say, Canblaster’s release 10-15 years ago – sorry, got a little nostalgic here. “Future, Past, Present” is kinda in the middle between these two categories, but still, its calm sounds… “Utopia” is not in any type downtempo or non-beat, but, you know, experiments with d’n’b can’t be put into the “usual club tracks” category. “Stay Close To Me” is an outro, ending everything on a dreamy vibe.

The second one starting with the A2 – “Jinx” is not as slow as its A-side neighbor, but still it’s only the beginning of a big album, keep calm. “Pastel Paradise” with its funky vibe from the 80s, probably will be the track, which will make you dance for the first time at the party, you attend in autumn. “Move Me (feat. Badbadtati Cosmic Vox)” – easily one of the best tracks on the album with the same formula as our main dish of today. “Freak Freak” – same, but now we’re in the middle of the party, that is straight fire. “Disco Nights” is continuing that funky vibe of the album, be ready for crowd screaming after vocal appearing. “SpaceCityFunk” is opening E-side with a sugar rush of a video game extra level – finally we’re in full speed. The E-side follw-up “Khebian” is jumping to another trend of the last years – spacey things, if you’re a fan of it – prepare yourself to scream in front of a DJ. “I Lost My Body” is a very emotional piece of broken beat, that should sound perfect on +5 (emotions + speed, pheww!).

I shouldn’t tell about Rakya’s sold-outs, so, you know: Juno, Deejay, Redeye… Go!
