Oslo based collective Det Gode Selskeb have always put a lot of effort into their events and their releases. From the finely curated team of artists and remixers to the stark artwork that adorns each vinyl release. For their next musical output DGS have opted to go digital and in the process have lined up a mammoth 2 part series packed full of “Jack’s Favourites”.
Kicking off part 1 in reverse order we present our pick of the 6-track VA and we have Koloniari on the dials. Striding a classy deep house route, “Believe In Love” keeps things simple with an airy house bassline, flickering hi hats and a softly spoken vocal set the scene. It is not long before acid wiggles soon filter in view to add serious bite to an already pumping track.
Heading back to the beginning of the release and Lazy Pete lives up to his name with a lush, deep swinger on “She’s A Replicant (Underground Mix)”. This hazy housey makes for the perfect intro to the release as it eases proceedings like a beer delivered to your sunbed on a hot afternoon by the pool. Label Regular Henriku notches up the energy levels considerably with “To The Mountains” with the help of some excellent congas and the accompanying deep bass tones. In a throwback to the tech house sound of old Henriku keeps the grooves coming thick and fast.
Moving onto Rex Ronny’s “Italo Cheese” and the track name tells you much of what you need to know, but there are no cheesy, obviously cringe moments here, just pure vibes. Progressing towards the business end of the release, Alm’s “Acid House Party” treads a classy house path with a smattering of acid bassline with some delicious key and string action. Completing this wide ranging VA is “Stay” from Philip Hinz and Herman Crants and there is no time wasting here as the acid is unfurled at the earliest opportunity. With the track maintaining its stripped back nature a classy vocal is soon introduced to push the track on. With the first part of their VA under their belt we are looking forward to part 2 that promises even more jacking action.
