Barcelona-based Smoothie Joints has made quite the impact since bouncing onto the scene just under a year ago. With digital outings, Seawolf Records in-stores, and club-based business Smoothie Joints, prepare for their debut vinyl release.
Aiming firstly at A1 “Baby Hold On”, label boss MostWanted forms a lightly weighted, playful groove that centres around a gnarly bassline and conga percussion. Setting the tone for a more involved experience, string stabs and vocal stabs soon add to the mix to form the full funk-packed picture.
The remainder of side A belongs to the remix from Nate S.U, and true to form for the Oz-based artist, his reworking of “Baby Hold On” is aimed straight at the floor. Thanks to the stripped-back use of drums and toughening up in the bassline section, it turns a great groove into a monster weapon.
Flipping over to side B, MostWanted presents a pair of original works, firstly with “It’s Timeee”. There is a great sense of identity appearing in this EP, and the insistent grooves and muscular basslines are joined by an uplifting synth line. Completing side B is completed by “Ancients Unfolds” which tapers down the energy levels a bit with soaring eagle samples, 90s bassline stabs and a more relaxed conga percussive route.
