Dolphin Flips Records is a relatively new record label born in the city of Melbourne. The Aussie outfit launched just last year, stemming from the minds of suki and BADEO. The founders are together involved in hosting parties under numerous different brand names, whilst producing music separately under their solo monikers. After the humbling success of last year’s FLPS001 and an ‘Unknown Artist’ single release which topped over 40k views on YouTube, the second installment from the label is about to drop. The man behind the music this time is Gregg Dunsmore.
The Glasgow artist already has a few productions under his belt but this one has a particular buzz about it, having been dropped by Arapu in the much-watched series of Sunwaves live streams earlier this year. As the release date comes closer, we’ve secured ‘Early Morning Groove’ for the premiere.
Bouncing bassline delivers a rapid groove while short bursts of synth provide slices of euphoria. Energy bubbles high from the second the beat starts. A whispering vocal breathes class, reverberating from bar to bar and as the mood continues to build samples squelch and chirp, delicately caressed by beautifully clean filters. It’s a perfect combination of ear tantalisation and dance floor destruction, well worthy of a slot in the peak time.
Gregg is joined by label head suki, alongside AWSI and Parsec all taking up remix duties. Both the title track and Gregg’s own ‘Late Night Dub’ receive the treatment. Elements of house continue to dominate in the reinterpretations, with Parsec offering something a little deeper.
Dolphin Flips Records are quickly becoming known for their raw, stripped back sound and devotion to music which challenges the boundaries of deep and minimal house. Their ‘Early Morning Groove’ EP is a Bandcamp exclusive, available to pre-order now before the official release date of 17th August.
