Signing off the summer with the next edition in the Raw Sense Music colour series, label head Raw Senses delivers the “Blue” EP. Crafting a multi-genre trip that covers electro, Acid, and two funk-leaning edits.
Our premiere track, “You Deep (Electro)” kicks off the VA with an almighty bassline and cracking snare combo that shakes the ground. Add to that some tasty acid squiggles that wiggle their way throughout the track. This is a tooly number that gives plenty of room for that bassline to do the damage, until the riffing synth comes into play, and it is then that it is clear that you have something special on your hands.
Heading back to a groove-based sound that has served Raw Senses well during the previous editions, “You Deep (Acid) takes this idea and replaces the more subdued bassline with a wicked 303 tilt. This in turn adds a more detuned sheen that follows a more attitude-filled route.
“Butter Funk” rounds on a vintage house sound that has long been the calling card of 2000s house parties. Vocal snips are crafted into percussion tools that sometimes never see the full light of day, but often conjure up an idea of where the samples come from. Completing things is “Butter Tool”, taken from a similar point in time but reduced into a gnarly, shuffling house loop.
