Based in Prato, Tuscany, a group of like-minded artists have banded together to form Orbitrax, and the first of many releases comes via a VA shared by founding members Skorpions, Indigo, as well as Ducato Driver. We check out “Satellites Vol. I”.
Heading straight to track 3 and Skorpions’ super stripped-back style effortlessly rocks on “Session With The Therapist”. Each powerful element is given plenty of room to breathe and the energy that flows through the bassline is alone worthy of the entry fee. Even the smallest of hi-hats transforms into a room-shaking experience. The second of Skorpion’s original works “Nahrin” features the vocal talents of Lourene and her moody musings match the energy of the source material perfectly. Spacey laser zaps are met with icy cold blasts of tumbled steel synth stabs and the pair’s signature thudding beats.
Skorpions are the filling in this beat sandwich and on either side is Ducato Driver with “Linea” and co-founder Indigo with “Keep It Clear”. The former makes the best use of the bowed synth, which apart from the probing bassline offers the biggest footprint on the track. Formally, Indigo utilises an outrageous palette of sound that really bursts out of the speaker. From the huge bassline, to the pounding grooves and retro vocal samples there is no denying this track. A clear sign of intent from Orbitrax and if it is one thing that the Italians know best it is basslines.
