Having enjoyed some downtime at the start of the year Archie Hamilton’s Moss Co. imprint is back again with more uplifting grooves courtesy of Joren Edwards. We are admirers here of Joren’s infectious rhythms and his 3 track ‘Adjust’ EP is a great example of his skills in this department.
Having impressed when he last appeared on Moss Co. back in April last year we pick the EP with ‘Bongolo’ and from the first bar, Joren finds his sweet spot with elongated Rhodes, bobbing percussion, and a swaggering bassline. This track could easily be dropped peak time on a Saturday as it could be during a chilled daytime session such is the mass appeal of ‘Bongolo’ and indeed this EP as a whole.
The remainder of the EP is in a similar vein but without a doubt definitely not samey. Joren has an insane knack for crafting such well-rounded themes throughout his releases and this feel-good vibe carries forward to lead track ‘Adjust’, edging more into more spacey driving territory the blooming synths and tidy breakdown hit the nail on the head.
Finishing off this 3-track package in style is the more stripped-down ‘Combo’, while a bit more of a groove tool than the previous 2 tracks it still features those eye-watering synth lines that just keep evolving revealing just a little bit more with each passing minute. Getting a purely digital release this time around but the quality of this EP easily deserves a vinyl run but believe us when we say that Joren has many more bombs like this up his sleeve.
