AURUM are back with their second release. The sister label of TELUM launched in March last year with the usual format – an unknown artist, with untitled tracks. In a rare reveal of the creator behind the craft, AURUM002 comes complete with tags attached. This one comes from Nu Zau.
A name already well established with the platform, Nu Zau has featured across the TELUM podcast series as well as serving up sounds live and direct from recent events. A regular at Sunwaves, Into The Woods and Animal Crossing to name a few, he can often be found playing back to back with fellow artist SEPP.
When it comes to his productions, remixes have been high on the agenda of late. AURUM002 marks his first full artist EP in a little while. And it comes complete with three fine entries.
‘Break Me’ takes the A side. An infectious groove grabs the bassline, a simple hook that keeps rounded and full throughout. As the beat rolls, layers build with precision. Percussion claps delicately between crispy synths and cosmic lasers, fueled by minimalism and playful hypnosis.
Melodies swirl around robotic vocal, a determined taunt with twisted feels and a deviant sleaze. Elements steer and circle around the bars. In the gaining complexity, energy bubbles, feeding a growing need to let the music take hold.
The B side takes a softer approach, featuring two synth heavy tracks centred more toward the atmospheric. Warm pads, drifting high notes and spirited groove drive a tasteful vibe across the rest of the wax.
