Icelandic outfit Distrakt Audio welcome Nu Zau to Reykjavik

The Nordic states have always been open to the progression of electronic music and now Iceland is delving deep into the world of minimal. Having launched back in August last year with their own in house record label Distrakt Audio the newly minted outfit created their manifesto to bring the burgeoning Romanian sound to Iceland.

Beginning with their maiden outing on DST001 earlier this year label owner Ali Demir teamed up with Furz for a split EP that featured a 12” packed with modular grooves, subtle vocals, and punchy dynamics. The well-received release has been doing great things and the second release is due to be dropped shortly. This time Ali is joined by Pryma Records co-owner Dani Labb. With summer very much in mind on this release ‘42/66’ will easily soundtrack many a lost morning or hazy afternoon on the finest dance floors.

Moving on to their upcoming event and Distrakt Audio have something very special on the cards. Taking place at nightspot Hurra on Saturday, June 11th will be an exciting new chapter in Iceland’s minimal story and they will be welcoming none other Nu Zau. The Bucharest native has alongside his many compatriots helped to propel the lush minimal sound of Romania into the wider electronic music consciousness. By way of his many solo and collaborative productions for many of the genres top labels including his own co-owned UVAR imprint Nu Zau is among the top tier artists of the moment. When he is not locked away in his studio crafting these pieces of art he can be found gracing the decks at all the major events throughout the year – Sunwaves, Holiday Mood, Summer of Love, the list is endless. There are few better names to begin with when introducing Iceland to wonderful and ever evolving world of minimal.

Providing a deeper slant on this sound in preparation for Nu Zau to perform will be rising talent Krbear who already has a wealth of experience in Iceland music scene. Having performed at the likes of Sonar Reykjavik and Secret Solstice Festival several years running. He will also be joined by the ever present and driving force behind Distrakt Audio Ali Demir. With high calibre releases and next level events such as this in the works it won’t be long before Iceland and specifically Reykjavik is placed firmly on the tour schedule of the world’s top minimal artists.
