A cornerstone of the Romanian community, Nu Zau has always been at the fore of the minimal movement within his highly influential domestic circles. Still, it is his work outside of his native land that has moved the sound forward and he has grown alongside it. As the Romanian strain of intricate, yet emotive minimal began to evolve into a more stripped form, Nu Zau and his co-founded UVAR imprint were at the vanguard. With a slew of solo productions in the works, Nu Zau’s aforementioned co-run label has also enjoyed the recent release of the 10 years of UVAR VA. Always looking to explore new grooves and unearth old gems, this Bucharest artist stitches these collected moods together with a hypnotic, untouchable swagger.
Having been a pivotal part of our community for so long we couldn’t wait to have Nu Zau present his brand of musical magic and we could not be happier to offer this by way of our podcast series. For this edition of our mix series, we find Nu Zau in full flow during a 2-hour cut from his all-night-long set at Romania’s Nook Club. In true Nu Zau style, bombastic basslines converge with raucous breakbeats with more than a nod to 80’s electro and hip hop. Of course, there are large swathes dedicated to the sleek, minimal house that has become the calling card of the UVAR label co-head and it all adds up to be a fantastic journey through sound.
