Space Tours boss Mitch Wellings steps up for his debut on Private Parts with an eclectic vinyl EP.
We zoom into the A1’s ‘The Ritual’ where an array of influences shine through a moreish housey beat. Most notably, a slick afro lyric scribbles over the top of a neat two step beat flexing shades of garage and dub sound system culture. There’s also shimmers of cosmic electro moods with sweeping synth lines and a punchy beat that is destined to light up any peak time dance floor.
Underpinning the track is a tight two-step rhythm, crisp and skippy, setting the foundation for the eclectic sprinkling of multiple genres that seep through the cracks. Each track sings with signs of experience through intricate sound design and a luscious sense of musicality. Stunning chords slowly evolve into a blissful breakdown that could bring tears to the right dance floor.
Mitch Wellings has been making music for well over a decade and has spent countless hours on the dance floor both behind and in front of the DJ booth, a true devotee to club culture. Outside of his own productions, Wellings runs ‘The Sound Kitchen‘, a mixing and mastering service trusted by many in the game, on top of his music education to aspiring producers, proof that he lives and breathes this craft.
‘Had Me Livid’ continues the EP leaning into a mean grime energy with murky basslines and a similar slick and garagey palate of percussion. ‘Leave with us’ flexes a menacing breakbeat vibe similar to the works of Radioactive Man. Deep and raw with an unapologetically UK vibe. ‘Choreography’ concludes this eclectic four track EP with a fruity house jam from a seasoned producer at the top of his game.
A standout release for Private Parts, and easily one of Mitch Wellings’ most expressive offerings to date.
