North Macedonian digital and vinyl outfit Pirka have been going from strength to strength as their output is as infectious as it is prolific, with this release marking number 47 for their digital releases and their 10th vinyl release landing soon, featuring none other than Mihai Popoviciu.
Pirka Stories Part 4 V.A. sees some household names, with Olivier Romero, Guy from Downstairs and Bryz contributing, as well as Constratti, Phill Prince, Acanalar and some lesser-known artists culminating in a tasty 9-track release. Always good to see tracks from established and underground artists side-by-side.
Olivier Romero’s “The Flow” is up next, presenting itself as a prime-time dance floor slice that is set to rock it. Tidy production from the Drumble Music bossman. This one lives up to its name as elements accumulate seamlessly, building to form one big bad groove. Acid lines pave the way for a host of vocals to find their flow and deliver the bump.
This jam-packed selection leaves little to the imagination; it boots off with “Drifting In Low Gravity” from Romanian hotshot Guy From Downstairs, which entertains dreamy pads, punctuated by soulful stabs and entrancing vocals.
Italian stallion, Phill Prince shares “Killing Time” which delivers low-slung, laid-back grooves and tight percussion, whilst mesmerising pads and plucks keep things interesting. Carlo Gambino’s “The Thing” takes things in a housier direction, where sweet vocal chops and thoughtful drum programming bring sun-kissed vibes with nods to some classic deep house flavours.
“Carry You” keeps it deep as it features near-transcendental harmonies that really do carry you elsewhere. With meticulous percussion and a healthy dose of samples underpinning the track, nice work from Ian Oskadev. “Bailulu” hears classic stuff from Constratti as a series of carefully curated elements interact and evolve, oozing melodious goodness and the percussion feels effervescent.
DJ Sandwich serves up a simplistic and infectious piece that is spurred along by skippy drums and saucy snare rolls, smooth stuff throughout “Know Sense”. Dejan Dex steps things up a notch in “Lemme Tell You Something” as subsonic grooves propel a live-wire acid bass line with vocal shots and melodies bubbling in and out.
Emotive melodies and harmonies work in tandem with a super catchy bass as Alffie entertains ethereal themes in “Fighting For My Future”. Hypnotising drum loops march on under cascading pads and pleasantries as Bryz reimagines elements of dub techno in “Alerg”.
“Randomassist” hears an assortment of oddities poking through the cracks of a robustly constructed minimal track, a fitting title for a tasteful track from Acanalar. Penultimate piece on the release, “Our Days” sees undeniable grooves amongst beds of pads, drawing influence from some classic pieces. Overt hits in all the right places with this one. Rounding things out, An2An and Bryan Rizzitelli drop a total bomb with “Never Mind” that features swirling leads, high-octane moments and a phat selection of drums and bass that combine for a heavy groove.
