Umbra Festival debut under total solar eclipse by Spain’s Agolada Lake

A rare alignment of nature and music will take shape this August as Umbra Festival lands in the northwest of Spain for a three day gathering built around a total solar eclipse. Running from August 11th – 13th with over 40 hours of music, the festival centres on August 12, when the moon’s shadow will pass across the region for the first time in decades.

Set at Pantano de Brocos near Agolada Lake, the location offers a remote and reflective backdrop, far removed from the pace of larger festival circuits. Framed by water and open landscape, the site leans into Umbra’s wider concept, positioning the event as both a musical programme and a unique moment in time.

The lineup reflects that balance between depth and atmosphere. Bella Sarris brings her long-standing approach to minimalist club music, shaped by time spent between Australia, Sweden and Berlin. Her sets tend to favour subtle shifts and detailed selections, making her a natural fit for extended sessions in open surroundings.

Romanian figurehead Cezar also features. As the founder of Understand and a key contributor to the Bucharest sound, his expression favours the deeper end of the minimal spectrum. Alongside him, Magda adds decades of experience, known for her fluid, tripped-out sets that move between weirdo house and techno with ease.

From Amsterdam, DJ Senc introduces a more driving, house-leaning energy, while Zeina brings a refined and elegant touch shaped by her recent rise through Egypt’s growing scene. Her selections lean into rolling grooves and understated progression, offering a nimble and alluring sound.

Live performance also plays a key role, with Mischa Blanos presenting a hybrid approach that bridges classical training with club functionality. His work, including collaborations with Thomas Melchior, brings a melodic dimension that complements the more rhythm-focused sets across the weekend.

The wider programme spans a broad spectrum of artists, including Praslea, Sublee, Sepp, Tania Vulcano and Felipe Valenzuela, alongside a mix of emerging names that reinforce Umbra’s focus on curation over scale.

Positioned as more than a conventional festival, Umbra leans into its setting and timing, offering a slower, more considered experience built around connection and continuity. With a total solar eclipse as its focal point and a lineup rooted in the deeper ends of electronic music, the event looks to carve out a distinct moment within the summer calendar.
