Oshana has been spreading her own brand of peak-time sonic weaponry around the cosmos and since the first release on her own label Psionic with Anthea she is already on to the second EP.
Few artists are capable of transporting listeners and clubbers alike to another planet and Oshana and her upfront take on analogue dance music hits the perfect sweet spot between house, techno, and electro. Picking up where the first release left off Oshana returns with the 3 track ‘Back to the Source’ EP.
Heading to the business end of Psionic 002 and Oshana is in 4/4 mode and a phat rounded bassline leads out B2 track ‘Mediation Meditation’. Shimmering electro-tinged synths flutter in and out of view and coupled with a straight kick, clap hat motif keeps things moving. These synths soon evolve to include a more forlorn atmosphere and lashings of the cosmic sound palette that Oshana has become loved and admired for.
Circling back to the beginning of the record and A1 track ‘Techno the Planet’ harks back to a more electro-techno point in time. Breakbeats and serious low-end action link up with slightly sinister synth arrangements. Completing the release over on B1 and title track ‘Back to the Source’ is the most upfront cut on the release and an acid bassline cuts through the mix to deliver a no-nonsense bomb that is sure to deliver the most impact on the dancefloor. When it is a possibility that the mood will remain in the dark Oshana injects a much-needed respite in the form of a classic techno pad that lifts the attitude of the track momentarily before returning back to the moody grove.
‘Back to the Source’ EP from Oshana is now available via subwax.
