Back in 2017 when we interviewed Jack Wickham, he was due to release his debut for One Records. ‘Indiglo’, from which we premiered here, was a groovy little number that fetched a tasty remix from Cab Drivers. A couple of years on and right on cue to celebrate 10 years since the label began, Wickham is back with another.
Label boss Subb-an featured as the premiere last month from part one of this milestone marking release. He goes on to open part two on a collaboration with Mathew Jonson, putting Wickham in good company from the off.
‘Yin’ takes the B side. It’s a boppy little bouncer with a chugging sub-bass typical of the label’s sound. The grungy bassline favours a dark, sweaty room and is complemented by meticulous repetitive rhythms that leave a clean finish on the sound. Swinging hi-hat prevails on the breakdown, keeping a cool and constant flow for the rest.
The elements build and draw you into the hypnosis of airy synths casually building high energy in the background alongside the percussive counterparts. ‘Yin’ is a playful one that oozes class. Throw in a couple of cheeky vocal snaps and you’ve got all the elements of a peak time banger.
Pre-order your copy at deejay.de or head over to Juno on the expected release date of 12th June.
