The latest premiere bursts over from the Ukraine capital Kiev. Most known on the underground circuit as being the home of established club Closer, Ukraine itself remains a hub for the sound. Delving deep into the scene in an extended feature back in 2019, we explored the country in its entirety. But all roads lead back to the capital, where the music is thriving.
Criminal Practice form a collective of artists well set in the city. Ghetto Sunrise, Vlad Stuparenko and Roma Khropko form the basis. Friends and fellow producers form the rest. Whilst the Criminal Cast podcast series has continued to celebrate the sound on the regular, record releases come in slow and steady. The third crime is ready to commit, with three of said criminals on the production line.
Virtual Reality (aka co-founders Ghetto Sunrise and Khropko) open up the record with ‘Underground Legends’. This naughty heavy hitter wastes little time in riling up the energy. Introduced by a twisted narrative of spiraling percussion and a hard sub, atmosphere edges sharply from the off. When low slung groove captures the bars, it’s a pleasant movement that becomes more so in the progression.
Unexpected melodies take hold, dancing with pace around the rapid, tapping hi’s. Tones warp between chords, threaded through higher pitched synths, nestled also in the bassline. The focus is the build, formulating a raucous party starter that deserves a spot deep in the depths of electro fuelled techno.
Virtual Reality are joined by Vlad Stuparenko, Kebab Traume, and a solo courtesy of Khropko. Buy the record from deejay.de now.
