Another one from the Chat Noir family, this time from their “tools” series. For this release, we have Groenogen, a Corsican DJ based in Barcelona, balancing light and dark sounds.
We begin with “The Sponge” on the B-side. This track perfectly embodies the ongoing wave of 2000s-inspired tech houses. While there’s plenty of this style circulating, Groenogen keeps it fresh with subtle adjustments and a standout vocal that feels contemporary despite the classic base.
Staying on the B-side, the last track, “Merlin Got A Problem”, is a light, melodic piece with just a touch of otherworldly charm, as its title suggests. It’s melodic and groovy, offering more than just a “tool” — it’s a proper standout. On the A-side, “Psycho Loveys” features a vocoder (and who doesn’t love that?), while “Yes Or No” teases with a heavy 4/4 groove and hypnotic wobbles.
The EP leans towards the lighter, more playable side of minimal and tech house. If you’re feeling it, head to Juno, Deejay, or Decks ASAP!
