After the huge success of DRGS07 where bumping minimal rubbed shoulders with Snoop Dogg’s ‘Gin and Juice’ to form a banging hood bomb DRG Series returns. These edits are so carefully crafted and with the artist remaining a closely guarded secret the focus is very much on the music and not the name carrying it. This time around it is Andre 3000 and Big Boi that get the re-rub treatment on DRGS08.
On ‘#DRGS08A’ what starts out as a solid stripped back groover soon develops into an end of night anthem. Hard to imagine that ‘Ms. Jackson’ is just over 21 years old but the anthemic vocals from Outkast are right at home with the crunchy snares and undulating basslines of the latest DRG Series outing. Some smart vocal editing has turned the usual arrangement into a more reprise version and when dropped in the mix will punctuate the mix very nicely. Most people will know this song very well as it was huge back in the day so most will appreciate the amount of editing and re-pitching that has gone into changing up the direction of the original. The tidy use of the reversed kicks from the original is also a very cool addition and lovers of the original will probably remember just how perfectly they would fit into a tech leaning track.
