Athens-based label Revolt! hits their tenth release with an EP from Greek artist Alex Psaltakis aka Other Reality. With serious licks of 90s breakbeats, trance, and acid house, the “Still Thrill” EP is aimed at dancefloors and heads old and new.
The EP kicks off in a typically lush 90’s style with “Ohm ’95” and the stunning synth washes and raw synth stabs typical of the era never seem out of place here. With Other Reality being a product of that time period, who is better placed to take us back to the hey day of acid house and trance. A2 “Kinda Free” is just as sublime with the pairing of up front kicks and bobbing acid bassline combined with the nicely contrasting paddy synths.
Flipping over and first up is “More Than Advice” takes a deeper route. The emotive synth pads paint a more introspective picture that is always punctuated with just the right amount of thud from the kicks and undulating 303 bassline. The EP is expertly completed with a step down in intensity on titular track “Still Thrill”. With the pressure backed off slightly, the 90s snapshot would not be complete without a trippier track, still dripping in 303 bass tones, the breakbeats and arping synth line.
