REVOLT returns with its eleventh release, this time welcoming GIDIA, the collaborative project of Giorgos Lemos and Kondaktor. Across eight tracks, the LP explores a broad spectrum of club sounds rooted in house, electro, acid and techno, shaped through a distinctly Greek lens that pulls equally from local street culture and wider music traditions.
The double pack follows last year’s 10th release from Other Reality, which delved deep into 90s breaks and rave energy.
Our premiere focuses on ‘Tsadakias’, one of the record’s more direct club moments. Built around a stuttering bassline and loose, swinging drums, the track wastes little time establishing its playful energy. Vocal stabs float in and out of the mix, bringing a throbbing peak time energy, whilst remaining lathered in delicious reverb, which brings a softness to the sonic palate.
Lush synth work drifts in and out of the arrangement, often heavily filtered and soaked in reverb, creating a strange contrast between peak time momentum and dreamier textures. Vocal stabs appear briefly before dissolving back into the mix, while quirky samples and cleverly placed breakbeats keep the rhythm section constantly shifting underneath. There is a carefree quality running through the track, but always anchored firmly to the dance floor.
What makes ‘Tsadakias’ particularly effective is its unpredictability. Rather than locking into a rigid loop structure, the arrangement remains open and lucid, introducing small rhythmic changes and unexpected details that maintain momentum. It reflects the wider spirit of the project, which draws from house, electro and early rave sensibilities without becoming trapped by nostalgia.
GIDIA’s combined experience is central to that approach. Giorgos Lemos brings decades of immersion in vinyl culture, house music and record collecting, while Kondaktor’s productions have long occupied a rawer, more rhythm-driven corner of the Greek underground. Together, the pair channel references ranging from West Coast grooves and disco, through to early Daft Punk aesthetics and boombox culture.
The wider LP continues to stretch in different directions, from the dubbed out collaboration with Greek hip hop figure Taki Tsan, through to the acid-driven hypnosis of ‘Diskoteka’ and the retro futuristic synth work of ‘Pysta’. Throughout, there is a clear sense of personality and shared language rather than a fixed stylistic agenda.
With mastering handled by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios, REVOLT!011 manages to preserve the grit and looseness of the material while giving it enough clarity to hit properly on larger systems. ‘Tsadakias’ captures that balance particularly well, delivering a club track that feels playful, slightly chaotic and deeply rooted in the energy of making music without overthinking it.
