Baltimore Chop has been using his PRGVSK Records as a space to release his own productions. And the Moscow based producer has been hard at work. In the space of just over a year he’s already onto his fourth release, whilst still finding the time to churn out plenty more originals and remixes on other platforms in between. Yet, there’s always something a bit more special about one of your own label releases.
‘You & The Sea’ takes centre stage as the title track to this four piece. The bassline trickles in to begin with, complete with a dramatic echo and a punching drum that could quite easily be the start of something heavy. Then the pads start. Warm synths float underneath an array of samples. The prominent high pitched sound that might resemble a bird song is the most exquisite of the bunch.
Percussive rhythm stops you drifting away to this one, before an atmospheric breakdown builds with uplifting keys to give a dreamy, hands in the air moment on the dancefloor. Perfect for a warm up, You & The Sea is full of pleasantries almost from the off. Its rounded off nicely too, as those keys gently fade out into the horizon like the title might suggest.
The rest of the EP gives a nice balance. With a few hints of euphoria in the collab with Will Sonic, some groove in Chop’s own ‘Second Home’ and a dark dirty beat in ‘Pretend’, it’s a well rounded one.
The EP as a whole is available exclusively over on Beatport right now and set to release on Bandcamp from 3 April.
