Premiere: 4 – Rupert Ellis – The Animator [ITWD001]

Having brought news earlier this month about Into The Woods and their brand new sister series of parties Out Of the Woods, their new venue and more parties from their main imprint they now deliver new sounds via their digital label. Their immersive brand of minimal and techno has been well documented by way of their parties in London and Berlin and their vinyl only imprint that saw Sepp and Swoy producing the goods. Their new voyage into the digital realm will see a sterling four track EP coming from Rupert Ellis.

We begin with ‘The Animator’ and this is a brooding slab of mood enhancing tech house. Modular whirrs and bleeps help to join the dots between the undulating bassline and thudding kicks. Paddy atmospherics are soon added to the already multifaceted mix to give a stunning sonic vista.

Circling back to the beginning of the EP and ‘Morrowind’ treads similar ground but in a much more tentative fashion. Arpeggiating bass tones and flecks of acid work in tandem around synth stabs to form a deep groover worthy of the ITW brand. ‘Dance Planet’ kicks up the energy levels considerably while retaining the deep cosmic vibes that were established in previous tracks.

Completing this excellent first digital foray is ‘Roboporn’ and this time around the effortless floating swagger is underpinned by a more muscular bassline and more upfront drum programming. Each track is as good as the last and the whole picture is a super well rounded, extremely well produced package of cosmic bangers that will be making themselves at home in the sets of the underground’s elite selectors.

Release date is Friday 7th April exclusively through Yoyaku on AZE digital as well as other streaming sites at a later date.
